This happened a couple of days ago, but the clip is definitely worth a look. Basically, a France Télévisions car cleaned out two cyclists in the TdF on Sunday. Spanish rider Juan Antonio Flecha was knocked to the ground, but Dutch pedal jockey Johnny Hoogerland was flipped clean off the road and into a barbed wire fence.
He jumped back on his bike and finished the stage. Says Johnny: "I landed on the fence, looked at my legs and thought: 'Is this what cycling is about?' ... I'm going to spend the rest of the day in a lot of pain. I have three cuts about seven centimetres long and quite deep. I'm going to hospital and I think I'll need 30 stitches at least. But we can be happy we're still alive."
Hats off. Don't let the lycra fool you - cycling is not for sissies*.
* That said, he did get busted for unnaturally high testosterone back in 2001. Maybe he wasn't feeling as much pain as he should have been.
